Coe-DSAI, New Technology Point In Karnataka

Recently, Karnataka Government officially declared that, Artificial Intelligence (CoE-DS&AI) and Centre of Excellence for Data Science will be established. Nasscom is the implementation and programme partner in the launching of this expensive project. Karnataka one of the most techno-smart states in the nation looks all set to welcome the global change. With this initiative, it can help top institutes like Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru can generate talent in the right direction.

According to the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, the new centre is aimed at promoting the development of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in the nation. The initial capital investment upon the new project is of the order of 40 crores. There is acute need for skills like data analytics and machine learning systems in top business enterprises and government settings.

In order to take its initiative ahead, the state government will finance the project in upcoming 5 years. According to Priyank Kharge, CoE will boost the setting of global analytics practice in Karnataka. Consequently there will be immense growth employment generation. According to research estimates, there will be requirement for 35,000 data science and artificial intelligence experts in the next year.

Karnataka, the IT hub of India has pioneered many scientific innovations and IT evolutions in the country. It is the hub of scientific destinations like Science City and Visverya Museum. Besides scientific drive, there is impetus on developing a wave of entrepreneurial spirit. The state inspires youngsters to opt for start-ups through its policies and financial aids. There is stress on developing in terms of competency, not ruthless competition. Consequently, IT graduates are looking for start-ups instead of hunting for jobs. The government plays a significant role to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the state. NASSCOM supports this drive of government. Kharge believes that the Karnataka led initiative will gradually spread pan India. In his words, the establishment of CoE is a “logical next step required to provide the right fillip to areas of Data Sciences and artificial intelligence and give a head start to, not just the state, but India as a destination to develop global product solutions.”

According to Gaurav Gupta, Principal Secretary of IT department, digital disruption has hit the globe. Owing to digital disruption, there are constant changes in global business scenario. So CoE is a strategic solution to cope up with the present situation. The emerging technologies will introduce its unique opportunities and challenges. Gupta believes such complicated challenges can be solved with the help of Artificial Intelligence and the Data Science.

If youngsters are skilled in Data Science, they can scan voluminous data and analyse them to deduce valuable information. Such condensed information will help in better decision making and strategy development. Artificial Intelligence has its own role in the dynamic sector. Developing machine learning systems and advanced robots will augment the efficiency of data mining and interpretation. Consequently, CoE will act as a key player in finding solution to upcoming problems. CoE will also encourage risk averse people to accept changes and see the positive side of changes.
